Kevin lives in Penn Township. When he is not hard at work as the General Manager of Northland Ford in Zelienople, he’s hard at work making music. In addition, he’s quite the outdoorsman. If it’s not a pair of drumsticks in his hands, it’s a fishing pole; look for him at a watering hole near you.
Kevin knew he was destined to be a drummer when, at age eight, he broke his brother’s guitar by beating on the back of it with pencils. Needless to say, his brother got a new guitar, and Kevin — you guessed it — got drum lessons!
Studying with Babe Fabrizi in Wilkinsburg in the early 1970s, his eyes were opened to all the great drummers of Classic Rock. His first hero was Danny Seraphine of Chicago. “As a percussionist, this guy was a monster!” Kevin reflects. In addition, John Bonham of Led Zepplin was a huge influence.“While many think of him as a head banger, he played with amazing finesse and hand speed.” says Kevin. Most recently, he has been impressed with the sheer power of Kenny Aronoff of John Mellencamp’s band.(You gotta love a guy who breaks cymbals!)
While growing up in Swissvale, Kevin played with local bands Taurus and Wax Virtue. (Bet you never heard of them.) In the ’80s, drumming took a back seat to his “day job”. However, he did find enough time to play and keep the local drum shop in business buying himself “new toys”.
Then, after a few years of being out of the “scene”, he jumped at the chance to audition for OPEN WIDE. And in the summer of 2000, he must have done something right because the band asked him to join!“Hey, I’m playing the music I love with some really great people who appreciate music and love playing until exhausted!”
Kevin left OPEN WIDE in early 2006 but now has rejoined three of his old band mates to rekindle the comradery and return to creating the music he loves.
